Beamish Hall Summer Wedding of Kathryn & David

Kathryn & David's Beautiful Summer Wedding at Beamish Hall

A Classic, Elegant and Quintessentially English Wedding…With A Modern Twist.

We recently had the pleasure of photographing Kathryn and David’s fantastic Beamish Hall Summer wedding. We asked the couple a few questions about their wedding day. This is what they had to say. Don’t forget to view some of the images from this amazing wedding in their gallery below.

Why did you choose your venue?

We chose Beamish Hall because it embodies the rare quality of being absolutely stunning yet not pretentious. We wanted to have an exclusive use venue that we could make our own and host our friends and family for the weekend, and having a Beamish Hall wedding felt like home to us. It’s proximity to Beamish Museum makes it extra special, as the museum houses Kathryn’s mining family heritage, and is a place where she has made lots of special memories growing up.

What was your wedding colour scheme?

Duck egg blue for bridesmaids’ dresses and mens’ ties and pocket squares. Coral pink and white flowers.

What about your dress?

It was an Enzoani, strapless, fit and flare gown made from Mikado silk, with a sheer embroidered lace back, decorated with pearls and beads.

I chose to wear a bespoke lace-trimmed, sheer jacket for the church, but removed this for the evening, and accessorised with a crystal belt and pearl necklace.

The one accessory I always knew I wanted was a cathedral-length veil, and I chose a lace-edged design that made my overall look feel even more romantic.

My Grandparents gifted me my wedding shoes, and after a special trip to Jimmy Choo in London, I chose metallic stiletto heels that had a crystal tiara on the front of each. They are the most beautiful shoes I’ve ever seen!

What was your favourite part of the day?

We both agreed that our favourite part of the day was saying our vows to each other – we both got a little emotional!

Aside of that, Kathryn’s parents booked a surprise helicopter ride to take us to the reception at Beamish Hall. It was really special seeing the Angel of the North and Beamish Hall from the air!

Kathryn’s parents also secretly arranged for the family Labrador, Tilly, to walk down the aisle as a surprise ring bearer. There was a chorus of “aww” as she came down the aisle, and such a lovely surprise!

What would be your top tip for another Bride & Groom room to be?

Try not to worry about the things you can’t control, like the weather, and enjoy the planning as much as possible – you’ll only do it once! On the day, trust your suppliers, they’re the experts and will guide you throughout the day so you’re free to just soak it all in and enjoy. From the moment we met at the altar, we spent the rest of our wedding day together, making memories. It’s so easy to get separated, but let guests come to you as a couple instead so you don’t miss out on time together.

How did we do?

Wow, wow, wow!

After booking the church and venue for our wedding, our next priority was choosing a photographer. After being to a lot of weddings in recent years (we’re at that age in our lives!) we’d noticed both those photographers who were fantastic, and those who weren’t, and even some locally-based photographers who were rude to guests. We were looking for a mix of both stunning photographs, but also genuinely nice people to share our day with.

We researched and came across Focal Point, and arranged to meet with David and Paul at their studio. From walking in, we instantly got a great feel for them…such genuinely lovely guys, who shared our vision for our wedding day. Then they got their albums out and we were blown away by the quality and style of shots. We immediately booked!

In the year running up to our wedding, David and Paul were on hand to offer advice and guidance, and we even created a WhatsApp group to share some shots that we particularly liked, which the guys actively encouraged, and they even brought along print outs of them on our wedding day for reference.

On the day itself, David and Paul were just fantastic. They were great fun to be around (and worked like magic in conjunction with our fabulous videographers, Jon and Adam from Top Table Films), and even went above and beyond photography to assist with things like my veil and dress throughout the day. A truly genuine, talented, fun and professional double act, we would recommend Focal Point in a heartbeat to anyone, and if our initial shots are anything to go by, we’re going to be amazed by the whole portfolio!

Thank you, David and Paul, for capturing our wedding day and for feeling much more like friends than photographers!
